An art-deco mid-Wilshire institution, the El Ray, hosted Caribou and some other band last Wednesday(I came only to see Caribou and not to wait 40 minutes between sets). As a newly interested Los Angelino, I've made the rounds recently at this venue and was pleasantly surprised by this concert. Sure, the floor was packed, but getting a drink at the bar was no problem, and I was still able to make my way to the front and snag photos. With Caribou's minimal vocals surrounded by heavy drums and bouts of instrumentals, I found myself wanting to dance and rock harder than everybody else.
